Mission & Leaders
The Houston Storytellers’ Guild has been called one of the most active and vital local storytelling organizations in the nation. The Guild holds a variety of events each year including, Tellabration, the Houston Liars’ Contest or Showcase, and our Festival.
Mission Statement
The mission of The Houston Storytellers’ Guild is to conserve and encouraging the art of storytelling by providing venues through which its members can share, listen, and learn about the beauty and power of storytelling in a supportive and safe environment. The Guild respects all story forms, as well as the cultures and traditions from which they come. Membership is open to all, from the novice to the seasoned, who share one thing in common: the love of telling stories. We welcome all comers to our story swaps, members, guests and walk-ins. We just keep opening the story circle. You do not need to be a storyteller or have a story to tell to attend our meetings. We warmly welcome story-listeners as well.
HSG is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the storytelling discipline, the dignity of its members, and the preservation of the storytelling community.
We are dedicated to:
Sharing stories and storytelling techniques.
Developing storytelling skills.
Encouraging diverse tellers.
Having fun listening and telling.
HSG is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. We are governed by a board of directors. Board members serve three year terms, with a number of positions coming open each fall. Any guild members in good standing may be considered for a board position. We also have many other service opportunities for members who enjoy active participation. If you have special skills or interest, please mention this to the Membership Chairperson or to any board member.
